Steidten Brings Bundesliga Magic to West Ham as Technical Director

A significant development at West Ham, reported by BBC Sport, sees German football guru, Tim Steidten, taking the reins as the club’s new Technical Director. Steidten, the powerhouse behind Bayer Leverkusen’s consistent Top 6 Bundesliga finishes during his four-year tenure, now brings his unique blend of data-driven player recruitment and scouting to the Premier League.

A Fresh Approach to Player Recruitment

Steidten’s appointment, at the age of 44, signals a tactical move by West Ham to reinforce their player recruitment strategy. Known for his keen eye for unheralded gems and his data-led approach to scouting, he’s expected to significantly impact West Ham’s tactical manoeuvres on and off the pitch.

Club chairman David Sullivan expressed his confidence in Steidten’s ability to steer the team in the right direction. “Tim’s appointment is key to our wider plans to drive our football strategy forward,” he stated, showcasing the club’s anticipation for a transformation under their newly appointed Technical Director.

Collaboration with Manager David Moyes

Steidten will join forces with Manager David Moyes and Sporting Director Mark Noble, marking a strategic alliance that aims to push West Ham’s aspirations higher. The former Bayer Leverkusen man comes with high praise from Moyes, who applauded Steidten’s “strong track record in elite level football”.

The new Technical Director will also be instrumental in shaping West Ham’s response to the anticipated £105m transfer of captain Declan Rice to Arsenal. Steidten’s ability to unearth promising talent may prove essential in filling the void left by the influential Rice.

Steidten’s Anticipation and Ambitions

Upon his appointment, Steidten expressed his enthusiasm for the role at West Ham, praising the existing team spirit and ambition. He remarked, “There is already a fantastic team in place, but also so much ambition – from the board, the manager, his staff and the players – to continue succeeding, developing and growing. I cannot wait to play a key part in that.”

Aiming Higher with Tim Steidten

While West Ham fans celebrated the club’s first trophy since 1980 – the victory in the Europa Conference League – the Hammers’ 14th-place finish in the Premier League left room for improvement. As the club prepares for a third successive season in European competition, Steidten’s arrival might just be the push West Ham needs to surge forward in the Premier League.

During his stint at Bayer Leverkusen, Steidten masterminded a series of consistent top-six finishes, raising hopes that he can replicate this success with West Ham. His transition from the Bundesliga to the Premier League will be one to watch as West Ham eyes a spot higher up in the league table in the coming seasons.

Juventus, Manna will be in London on Wednesday to place Arthur and Zakaria at West Ham

The arrival of Cristiano Giuntoli in the management of Juventus will not harm the work of Giovanni Manna. The young Juventus sporting director was promoted from the Under 23 line-up a few months ago and is working to build the squad available to coach Allegri, under the guidance of the former Napoli sporting director, but also to thin out the squad by trying to place those players who are not part of the plans of the Continassa club.

Zakaria and Arthur towards West Ham

Among these are Denis Zakaria and Arthur. The two players, who would hardly have found space next season, will be sold in the transfer market session. As reported by today's edition of Tuttosport, it will be Manna who will negotiate their transfer to West Ham. On Wednesday, the executive will be expected in the English capital to place two more shots at the exit.

West Ham want red hot Chilean

By Alan Nixon

West Ham are ready to make a bargain bid for Chilean sensation Darío Osorio.
Winger Osorio plays for Universidad de Chile and is in the national side at just 19 and has turned down a move to Brazil because he wants to come to Europe.

Hammers are expected to table an offer around £7.5 million this week while AC Milan are also interested in buying Osorio and loaning him out.
Universidad will sell at the right price and West Ham could sneak him in before other Premier League clubs act. Wolves have also been watching.

Hammers face a wait to find out what Everton midfielder Amadou Onona plans to do. David Moyes is keen on the Belgian international but the player would prefer a Champions League club if he moves.

West Ham transfer could help club finance move for Chelsea outcast – Confidence Hammers will finalise deal

By Sean Lunt

FC Union Berlin could finance a deal for Chelsea Christian Pulisic this summer ‘after the sale of Sheraldo Becker to West Ham’.

That’s according to Berliner Kurier, who appear convinced that Becker will be moving to the London Stadium at some point in the coming weeks.

The newspaper takes a look at Union Berlin’s summer transfer window so far, which has not gotten off to a fast start and is expected to be a slow one.

They ideally need to bring in money before they can strengthen their squad for the Champions League and one of the main candidates to be sold is Becker, who has long been linked with a move to the Premier League.

So far, no club from England has made their move, with it stated that Premier League clubs don’t tend to move big in the market until later anyway, and so potential incomings at Union are at something of a standstill.

The latest name to be linked with a move is Christian Pulisic, who is on Chelsea’s list of players they want to move on to help balance the books.

It’s been claimed he could be moved to Union on a season-long loan deal and Berliner Kurier explain this ‘could certainly be financed’ once the club have sold Becker to West Ham this summer.

There is no explanation of why they think Becker will be joining the Europa Conference League winners, or even details of the transfer, just a confidence that it will be happening at some point and give Union money to spend.

That money could then be spent on signing Pulisic from Chelsea, although they do question whether the American would move permanently given, he’d have to take a huge cut to his reported annual salary of €9m a year.

Any potential move for him depends on the deal taking Becker to West Ham, which Berliner Kurier seem to think is a certainty.

West Ham newcomer Tim Steidten has 105 million reasons to feel pressure

By Roshane Thomas

The arrival of Tim Steidten as their technical director may prove to be West Ham United’s most significant signing of the summer transfer window.

Steidten, hired after almost four years in similar roles with Bayer Leverkusen of Germany’s Bundesliga, will be responsible for West Ham’s player recruitment strategy — and there will be little time for a bedding-in period, given his first task will be to assist manager David Moyes in finding Declan Rice’s replacement with some of the £105million the club expect to bank from their captain’s move to Arsenal.

Steidten, 44, has a proven track in identifying talent, having helped sign Serge Gnabry and Kevin De Bruyne (on loan) while previously with another German side, Werder Bremen. Moussa Diaby and Jeremie Frimpong are some of the young players recruited during his time at Leverkusen, and West Ham will be expecting similar success in east London.

Their majority shareholder David Sullivan has said that Steidten’s appointment “is key to our wider plans to drive our football strategy forward”, but the question of exactly where he slots into their structure is intriguing.

He will work closely with Moyes but will also operate alongside Mark Noble, the former captain and club icon who was appointed sporting director last September. Quite where Rob Newman, who has had mixed results since his appointment as head of recruitment in autumn 2021, fits in is unclear.

What is beyond doubt is that Steidten has to hit the ground running, given Moyes has already cut a slightly frustrated figure in terms of West Ham’s summer business.

“We’ve been making offers for players. Some have been getting accepted and some haven’t,” Moyes told West Ham United’s in-house media last week. “But that’s where the pressure comes at this time of the year — trying to get those players in that you’d like.”

He has every reason to be concerned when you consider the club missed out on Jesse Lingard, Piotr Zielinski, Amadou Onana, Matheus Nunes, Hans Vanaken and other targets last summer.

Moyes has been meticulous with his planning on summer transfers since his first managerial job at Championship club Preston North End 25 years ago. But almost a year on from expressing worry, he will know preparation for the new season, which begins away to Bournemouth on August 12, has been halted by Rice’s impending transfer.

The 24-year-old England midfielder is set to leave in a deal worth £105million ($133.2m) — a record for a British player. Although the fee was agreed last Wednesday, the hold-up has been the structure of how the money will be paid. Arsenal initially proposed instalments to be amortised over four years, but Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady — who are overseeing the deal — want the money quicker than that.

The deal is expected to go through imminently, but the delay in formalising it has been far from ideal for Moyes.

He has always favoured making signings early in the window and it is just over a week until West Ham begin their pre-season fixtures away to non-League Boreham Wood. They then travel to Australia for games in Perth against local club Perth Glory and then Tottenham Hotspur on July 15 and 18 respectively.

It may be the infancy of the summer window but the pressing issue for Steidten and Moyes is what they are going to do in a Rice-less central midfield. At present, West Ham have Lucas Paqueta and Tomas Soucek as the senior options. Flynn Downes and Conor Coventry are there, too, but both could leave the club in this window. Manuel Lanzini was released last month at the end of his contract after eight years at the club.

While potential replacements for Rice have been identified, with Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Arsenal old boy Matteo Guendouzi, of French side Marseille among them, Moyes needs a squad capable of competing in Europe again after their Conference League triumph booked their place in the group stage of the Europa League. What will reassure him is that the money banked from Rice’s departure will be reinvested in the squad.

Moyes is also keen to tinker with his recruitment policy following the difficulties of last summer. The club spent over £160million in that window on Paqueta, Downes, Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer, Emerson Palmieri, Maxwel Cornet and Gianluca Scamacca, a set of signings which yielded decidedly mixed results. That is set to change this year.

“I think I would like a little bit more of British players, or homegrown players, if we possibly could,” Moyes said in May. “(But) I wouldn’t set out to take one of them if I saw something better or I thought there was a better alternative.”

While they try to get the Rice deal done and new players in, West Ham need to avoid a repeat of their 2022-23 pre-season. Performances against Ipswich Town, Boreham Wood, Reading, Rangers, Luton Town and Lens were underwhelming and they won only one of those six friendlies (drawing four), scoring a total of six goals in them. It is surely no coincidence the club then suffered clean-sheet losses in their opening three league games, against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion.

This summer, it needs to be a case of quality over quantity when it comes to signings.

Moves for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes and Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott could be explored in the coming weeks. Moyes, though, will remember the events of last August and how tiresome that window proved.

“We need to do an awful lot more business,” he said, when asked if he has a top-six-standard squad. “We’re far from finished. We might have to take that risk. This could be one of the biggest turnarounds I’m having to make here. It’s a challenge. We’ve made numerous bids. Genuine bids. Genuine money. For different reasons, we’ve not got them. We’ve found it difficult.”

Steidten’s appointment is designed to improve that situation and with that £105million set to be banked, he will not be lacking in resources.

That is an enticing prospect but it also brings pressure: collectively, West Ham must prove they have learned from the mistakes of last summer and ensure that Rice’s exit does not leave a gaping hole in the team for weeks or even months.

Napoli, Roma And West Ham Show Interest In Union Berlin’s Dutch Defender Danilho Doekhi

Napoli, AS Roma and West Ham United are all interested in Danilho Doekhi, according to Voetbal International. The Dutch defender has just experienced a super season with Union Berlin. He featured 25 times in the Bundesliga as Union finished in fourth place. The 25-year-old centre-back even scored five goals and provided two assists. His fantastic form has attracted interest from the Italian champions along with other top European clubs.

Doekhi made the switch from Vitesse to Union Berlin last summer. The former Ajax academy player was a regular starter in the Bundesliga and Europa League last season, as the club progressed to the round of 16 in the competition, beating Ajax along the way.

Napoli are set to lose their star centre-back Kim Min-Jae to Bayern Munich, so they’ve identified Danilho Doekhi as a suitable replacement. AS Roma and West Ham are also showing strong interest. Unlike Napoli and Union Berlin, Roma and West Ham will not be playing in next season’s Champions League, but they will be in the Europa League. This is likely to play a big part in the defender’s decision. However, no offer has been submitted to Union yet.
